Class Structure & Descriptions
Dance Plus offers technical classes in two forms: Combination and Specialty. Combination classes will be required to invest in multiple costumes; which varies on the level of the class (some may be brand new costumes, some may be created). Specialty classes will be required to invest in only one costume (purchased or created).
COMBINATION CLASS . . . consists of Lyrical Ballet, Tap, and Jazz techniques; levels ranging from beginner to advanced. Tumbling will be offered in place of Jazz for some of the beginner classes – age based. Classes are offered in 1 hour 20 minutes, 1 hour 30 minutes, and 2 hour sessions. Dancer must be evaluated and placed in the appropriate class for their age and skill level. Leotard, tights, pink ballet shoes, and black tap shoes are the required class attire. (Black Gore Boots and Lyrical Shoes are Int/Adv)
SPECIALTY CLASS . . . consists of concentrated instruction on one specific technique. Classes are offered in 1 hour sessions. Classes are open to all dancers. The following list details Specialty classes that we currently offer.
ü African ~ Class instructs in traditional West African dance technique and its history. Movement is high energy and will also focus on body isolations and various rhythmic patterns. Comfortable clothes and bare feet are required. Ages 10 and up.
ü Ballet ~ Class instructs classical ballet technique with traditional music and style. Leotard, tights and pink ballet shoes are the required attire. Ages 13 and up. Must be assessed for level placement.
ü Cheer & Pom ~ Class instructs the basics of proper cheer movement and Pom-Pon dance technique. Basic stunting and tumbling is included. Focus is placed on sharp movement and group precision. This class will be offered in three levels: Level I (Beginner), Level II (Intermediate), and Level III (Advanced). Dancer must be evaluated and placed in the appropriate level class. Tennis shoes and Jazz shoes are required. Ages 4 and up.
ü Hip-Hop ~ Class instructs Hip-Hop technique and style. This class will be offered in three levels: Level I (Beginner: Ages 4 - 9), Level II (Intermediate: Ages 9 - 12) and Level III (Advanced: Ages 13 and up). Tennis shoes or Jazz shoes are required. Ages 5 and up.
ü Jazz ~ Class instructs jazz technique using middle of the floor exercises, traveling patterns and choreography. Ages 13 and up. Must be assessed for level placement.
ü Lyrical ~ Class uses lyrical technique and movement to express praise. Ages 13 and up. Must be assessed for level placement.
ü Modern ~ Class instructs the basics of the modern technique, which is an opposition to classical ballet. Focus on off balance and free flow movement. Ages 12 and up.
ü Musical Theater ~ Class instructs the collaboration of vocal and acting technique with basic dance choreography. Ages 8 and up.
ü Pointe ~ Class instructs basic to advanced ballet technique executed on your toes. Must have permission to take class. Ages 13 and up.
ü Praise ~ Class uses lyrical technique and movement to express praise. Ages 10 and up.
ü Tap ~ Class instructs rhythmic tap and percussion technique. Ages 13 and up. Must be assessed for level placement.
ü Tumbling ~ Class instructs floor and mini-tramp tumbling skills; covering basic acrobatic technique with a progression to power tumbling. Much focus is placed on flexibility and strength improvement. Class is offered in 3 levels: Level I (Beginner), Level II (Intermediate = Must be able to do a backbend kick over.), Level III (Advanced = Must be able to do a standing back handspring.). Bare feet are required. Ages 3 and up.
